Oh Comely; audience

1)Oh Comely introduces itself: "Oh Comely is a powerful mix of  words and pictures, stylish presented and much loved by its readers. It provides an alternative to the 'pile-it-high' aesthetic of mainstream magazines for young women... it is a breath of fresh air for a creative audience desperate to find something that speaks to them directly in an accessible, intelligent and interesting voice".
2)Print and circulation statistics are much smaller than Men's Health statistics which highlights the fact that Oh Comely targets a niche audience and is therefore smaller than Men's Health as it targets a mainstream audience.
3)Through traditional independent stores.
4)The primary target audience varies from 27-35 individuals who would read this primarily in the upper class. The demographic would be ABC1 who are educated as they are more likely to pick up a niche magazine.
5)I think that reformers would be attracted to Oh Comely. Reformers want to change the world/ society for the better. This links to the magazine as they focus on creativity and self discovery.
6)Oh Comely audiences would be in upper class as it is very expensive.
7)I would expect readers to be well educated with a degree as it consists of many sensitive topics that you need to be able to understand.
8)Personal identity- audiences are able to relate to certain story's in which are shared by others.
Surveillance- it includes information.
9)The magazine itself and the layout is simplistic with outstanding photography. It suggests that they take their time on the visuals in order for the audiences to be satisfied.
10)Oh Comely has built a loyal audience as their main focus is the audience therefore, they have created a strong relationship with them in order to create the content that is to the audience's taste.

I am unsure about my path after sixth form so that is why I study subjects that I enjoy/ find interesting. . I have an app on my phone which sends notifications about local new stories. The last film i watched was Venom. Skins is my favourite series. I spend around 3-5 hours on my phone; i know that this is way too much.

Semiotics: icon, index, symbol blog task

This is an index as it clearly says 'no entry'. If it was a sign without words, it would be an icon . This is important because if you go somewhere that you aren't allowed to enter, it could result into you getting into a lot of trouble or even danger. This is an icon. the majority of the society would recognise this icon anywhere and they would know that it is the icon that represents instagram, a popular social media application. This is a symbol . although it doesn't immediately imply anything, people know that this is a sign for disabled people. It may mean that there is disabled access. Icons and indexes are important because they portray a message for us to understand. Everyone is able to understand them because the image or word clearly implies that its about a specific topic or object. Global brands may avoid using symbols when advertising and marketing as some symbols don't mean the same in other countries because they may be cultural t...

Gender, Identity and Advertising

1) Gauntlett suggests that the "mass media is a force for change." This links with 'That Boss Life' by Maybelline as they use a man who uses makeup in the advert. Traditionally, people wouldn't usually associate men with makeup; stereo-typically, only women wore makeup. The advert subverts the traditional views. 2) Gauntlett suggests that "television programmes, pop songs, adverts, movies and the internet provide numerous kinds of 'guidance'" therefore, "we lap up this material because the social construction of identity today is the knowing social construction of identity." This means that we listen to the 'guidance' that is given to us through the media which changes the way that we our, forming our identities. 3) Both CSPs reflect the idea that "the twentieth century are less tolerant of homosexuality." In the Maybelline advert, one of the promoters is a famous homosexual man. It demonstrates how everyone is becom...
