Advert Analysis

This poster is advertising Reebok clothing. There is a close up of 50 Cent who is an inspirational man to young adults. He is a well known rapper. Reebok has used him as a model in their advert due to is popularity and it will make people want to by their clothes because they have such a famous person featuring in their advert.

He has a serious facial expression- it is a reflection of his attitude; it suggests that he has independence therefore, it is gritty. The lighting highlights of parts of  his face; this also contributes to his overall seriousness. the fact that it suggests that he is independence could symbolise that Reebok is unique. it encourages their target audience of today's generation to buy their clothing as they want to be trendy but not look the same as everyone else.

The theme of identity is carried throughout the advert as there is a picture of some finger prints next to the picture of the 50 Cent. No one has the same finger print- this also continues the idea of individuality. Also, the finger prints may suggest criminal activity because they look like they are in a police file.

Although the product itself isn't featured in the advertisement itself, the target audience is able to recognise that it's Reebok as their logo is at the bottom of the poster. i think that not having the actual product in the advertisement may intrigue their target audience as they might want to look at their clothing online, or even go out into shops and look at what they sell.

50 Cent is wearing a chain as part of his costume. It emphasises his wealth and his success as a rapper.

The copy 'I am what I am' uses parallelism and it also continues the theme of identity and individuality because it is a clear statement which says that you can't change who you are so you may as well live the way you are and grow and succeed in life.

The hip hop font which is over the fingerprints creates a sense of dominance because it is a quote from 50 Cent. It is as if he is telling the audience what to do.

This poster is clearly advertising Nike clothing. I know this, due to the Nike symbol (the tick)- everyone recognises Nike by their symbol.

Nike is targeting the teenage generation as they are a trendy brand within this age group. Not only are they trying to grab the teens attention, they are also targeting athletes or people who enjoy sport.

It is a picture of a woman who is lifting a weight. the fact that she is lifting a weight shows her strength. It connotes that Nike clothing can make you seem stronger no matter your gender. This poster destroys the idea of gender stereotypes because the woman isn't wearing 'lady like clothing'; instead, she is wearing sporty clothing that have a small variety of blue shades on them. Her pose shows that she is determined to get fit; also, her face expresses this too as she is looking at the weight. We cant really see her face. It suggests that her main focus is the weight therefore, nothing around her can distract her due to her willingness to stay physically healthy.

The background is white furthermore, it encourages us to look at the woman as she is wearing bold colours; the Nike symbol is also bold, helping us to focus on it.

The photo is a medium long shot. This brings our attention to her whole costume and this is what the brand wants us to see.

Score Advert

Wider reading: 1. In the 1960s, advertising techniques were shown in a time of new and improved way to advertise. Back then, advertising agencies focused on the creativity when planning their campaigns. Score reflects that change as it focuses more on gender roles and sexuality more than it focuses on the product itself. It is significant as the advert symbolises how women were; it objectified the women because they are admiring the male while they carry him- this signifies the fact that men are dominant. 2. During the post war period, campaigns included the idea that women should stick to being housewives. 3. The props that are used in this advert reinforce the idea of gender roles. For example, the only male is holding a gun; this could assert his masculinity and automatically give him all of the power. Also, it could be see as a phallic symbol; the women are all reaching up to him to get their hands on him. This could be seen as sexual as all of the women want him. Also, the cost...
